Almost all Western countries have a code of military ethics, but Israel's code, called “Tohar Haneshek” (Purity of Arms) is different in significant ways. In this text-based session, we'll analyze the IDF's Purity of Arms code and look at the rabbinic and Biblical source material that informed how and why the code was created. We'll also discuss real-world examples of the ethical dilemmas IDF soldiers have faced in combat and how the Purity of Arms code did or didn't help soldiers navigate the moral quandaries they encountered. Join “Israel 201” author Joel Chasnoff for this insightful look at the IDF’s code of ethics.
